Dr. Roberto Tutino

About Roberto

Dr. Tutino is a first-generation Canadian, born and raised in Montreal to parents of Italian descent. From a young age he had a strong desire to pursue medicine, and that dream never wavered. In the fourth grade, he and his classmates created a time capsule. Ten years later, in 2004, Dr. Tutino was accepted into medical school. He then opened the time capsule and read a letter from his teacher who had written “Dear Dr. Tutino, I hope you achieve all your dreams.”

Dr. Tutino attended McGill University and pursued his Bachelors of Science degree in Physiology. After two years, Dr. Tutino received early admission to McMaster Medical school with a 4.0 GPA.

After receiving his medical degree in 2008, Dr. Tutino moved to Toronto to pursue his Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery training. During this time, training was undertaken with the grandfathers of gynecomastia surgery in Canada: Dr Fielding (open technique) and Dr Lista (pull through technique). In 2013 he completed his training and became Board Certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Following his training, he traveled to Melbourne, Australia, where he completed a fellowship that focused on aesthetic and non-aesthetic breast and body surgery. During this time, he developed a particular interest in breast cancer reconstruction and the transformative impact of cosmetic surgery on his patients’ lives.

Dr. Tutino’s fellowship in Melbourne included training in microsurgery, which involved delicate procedures such as sewing small blood vessels using a microscope. This experience enhanced his precision in cosmetic surgery, allowing him to create subtle enhancements and minimize tissue trauma, leading to faster recovery times for his patients.

Dr. Tutino returned to Toronto in 2014, when he joined both Trillium Health Partners and Verso Surgery Centre. At Trillium Health Partners Dr. Tutino headed the Immediate Breast Reconstructive surgery program. This was one of the largest breast reconstructive surgery programs in North America based on case volumes. At Verso Surgery Centre, Dr. Tutino continues to head the cosmetic body surgery department.

Dr. Tutino became a teaching faculty member at the University of Toronto in 2015. He was appointed as a lecturer in the Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery. During this time, he taught Plastic Surgery residents and medical students. His dedication to education was recognized with a teaching excellence award from Trillium Health Partners in 2019. In 2023, Dr Tutino received the Chairman’s Medal from the department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Toronto.

Over his 10 years of practice as a plastic surgeon, Dr. Tutino has founded a unique surgical technique to treat Gynecomastia. In 2023, Dr. Tutino founded his dedicated Gynecomastia practice as a result of the consistent increase of Gynecomastia patients in his care. This influx was prompted by his outcomes from his novel surgical technique.

Dr. Tutino is passionate about his work and has performed over 12,000 surgeries to date. He maintains strong relationships with colleagues in the medical community, fostering a collaborative environment where knowledge and resources are shared for the benefit of their patients.
